My approach

Every dispute has legal, financial, practical—and human—issues. My job is to understand what this particular case needs and help the people involved make informed decisions about what comes next.

1

Every case is different

There is no single right style of mediation. I adapt the process to the people, the issues, and what is most likely to make the conversation productive.

2

Good decisions matter

Settlement is the goal, but it also matters that every party and attorney leaves understanding the options, risks, and alternatives.

3

Curiosity before conclusions

Understanding what is actually preventing movement often reveals opportunities that are not obvious from the pleadings or opening positions.

4

Emotion is information

Emotion may point to a misunderstanding, an unspoken concern, or a barrier that has not yet been addressed. Understanding it can help people move forward.

5

Use your mediator

Ask about strategy. Tell me what your client is not seeing. Say when part of the process is unclear. The more I understand what you need, the more helpful I can be.

Why are these people stuck here?

The answer often reveals opportunities that are not obvious from the pleadings or opening positions.
